In 1989, Jerry Port and his wife, Kelly, became the fourth generation to run the farming operation
at Port Farms, located in historical Waterford, Pennsylvania. They started out farming soybeans
and wheat and then extended their operation by roasting soybeans and reselling to larger feed
mills. That was the mainstay for many years, until a family member suggested they add Christmas trees and pumpkins to their mixture. |
|
| That is where the fun began! |
| In 2003, with their two children, Casey and Stephen, and the help of many family and friends, a retail pumpkin market was opened that included corn mazes and hayrides. They began the pumpkin patch in efforts to educate children about the importance of farming and from that it grew into a Fall tradition for many families. |
Since 2003, the Pumpkin Farm has grown, and the Port's have hosted many functions, such as birthday parties, graduations, and church functions along with the Fall Harvest Festival. For the 2008 season, we are hosting our first wedding, and we look forward to many more!
In these times of hectic schedules, the desire will always be there to educate children but also create family time and many lasting memories for the folks that visit the farm!
